Presentation and workshop opportunities for yoga teachers and mental health professionals

LogoHorizontal.png

As a "helping professional" and advocate for trauma informed practices, I provide a variety of workshop and presentation opportunities for yoga teachers and mental health professionals alike. On this page you will find information about upcoming speaking engagements, workshops and presentations intended for anyone interested in learning about yoga as a compassionate tool for trauma healing.

What's the point of getting trained?

As yoga teachers….

Trauma awareness and sensitivity in yoga has become enormously important and widely discussed in recent years. As a result of many exposés on the institutionalized abuse within the yoga world, as well as social justice movements like #metoo and Black Lives Matter, becoming a trauma-informed yoga teacher is now synonymous with increased safety, accessibility and greater professional responsibility.

And yet, rarely ever is the subject of trauma included within any official yoga teacher training! Until this changes (and I believe it will), it is up to us to take independent steps to become informed...

As therapists….

From a mental health perspective, yoga can provide an endless amount of therapeutic benefits in support of trauma therapy and recovery. However there are countless different styles of yoga, and not all are created equal where treating complex trauma is concerned. Trauma Center, Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) was specifically developed to provide psychologically safe opportunities for survivors of complex trauma to notice, feel, and interact with their bodies. Based in trauma theory, attachment theory and neuroscience, TCTSY is very different from how yoga is traditionally taught.

Therefore, if you work with trauma-impacted populations, understanding the specific methodology of TCTSY and how to integrate it into treatment can be hugely beneficial to your clients’ therapeutic process...
